Bookshop Accessibility
Accessibility at Our Bookshop
We’re so grateful that so many people want to visit us, and we want you to feel as comfortable as possible when you do. Our little shop is full of character (and books!), but because it’s a historic Grade II listed building, there are some limitations we can’t change.
Here’s what to expect when you come by:
Getting here
- The Mysterious Bookcase is located at 6 Westbourne Arcade, Bournemouth, BH4 9AY
- The nearest railway and coach stations are located at: Bournemouth station, Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH8 8HX.
- MoreBus services stop in Westbourne, just a short walk from the shop.
-
We don’t have our own parking, but Westbourne has on-street parking for up to an hour, including designated disability spaces. There are also paid car parks nearby.
Entering the shop
- There is a small step at the entrance. As our shopfront is listed, we aren’t able to alter it and we don’t currently have a ramp.
-
The doors are not automatic, but if you need a hand opening them, we’ll be very happy to help.
Inside the shop
- The front of the shop is still a bit of a work in progress, so space may change as we continue to arrange things. The back area will be a little more snug due to seating, especially if the ladder is there too, which can make it harder to move around.
-
Our bookcases reach up to about 3 metres high. While customers can’t use our sliding ladder, we’re always glad to fetch books from the higher shelves for you — just let us know!
Facilities
-
We don’t currently have a toilet for customer use.
A note from us:
Our shop is small, but our welcome is big. If you’re planning a visit and have any questions about access, or if there’s something we can do to make your time here easier, please do get in touch. We’ll do our best to help, and we’d love to see you.
